Big Changes Coming and Some Cards

Wowzers! We were just advised that Stampin' Up! is making changes to their catalogs! But don't fret, they are good changes!

The big Idea Book and Catalog will now be released on June 1 instead of July 1 and there will be two mini catalogs each year instead of three, an Occasions one and a Spring one. The IBC will be fewer pages BUT, the minis will be bigger in size and contain more stuff! Most of the occasions stuff from the IBC will be moved to the minis such as the Christmas and Halloween stamp sets and the Easter and Valentine's stamp sets.

Stampin' Up! has also decided to discontinue the Decor Elements and Jewelery lines. So if there is anything you were thinking of getting, get them now!

I'm so excited because that means we are getting a new catalog in FOUR months! Yippee!

So let's get on to some stamping projects shall we? I held a 'Stamp Out the Winter Blues' class on Tuesday. I had four cards made and stampers were able to choose which cards they wanted to make and how many of each card and then just worked at their own pace. They always tell me they love this format so I try to have it once a quarter.

I seriously need a new camera!

Covered Composition Book Tutorial

Today's tutorial is how to cover those plain Jane notebooks!

Supplies needed: Composition book, Tombow Multi Glue, designer paper and desired embellishments

This is what the composition books look like.

The glue. This glue is so awesome! You don't need very much and it will stick forever!

Cut a piece of designer paper 7 1/2 x 11 inches. Put some glue just around the edges of the book. You don't need much. Place designer paper over the cover so it is just over the binding on the book. Make sure there is designer paper hanging over the top two edges and the one side edge.

Flip the book over. Fold in the two corners and glue those down first. Remember, just a dab will do you!

Fold up the edges. You can use your bone folder to make it easier. Glue these down. You will need to hold the paper for a couple seconds until the glue adheres.

This is what it should look like

Cut a piece of coordinating cardstock 7 x 9 1/4. You may want to measure in case yours is a bit different. I made a boo boo on this one. I thought the cardstock was brown in the light I was using. Sadly it was purple, but it still coordinates well I think! Put a thin line of glue all the way around the edges of the cardstock then put over the inside covers of the composition book. This will give the inside a finished look.

Decorate the outside as desired! With this one, I just tied ribbon all the way around the front cover and just left it as the butterflies really decorate the book enough.

Voila! You are done!

Flirtatious Specialty Designer Paper - Card 4

This is the third card we made at my Flirtatious dsp class. It's hard to see but there are three layers of scallops on the skirt. The girls in class sponged along the scallops so they popped out more. My girls are so smart!

Yep we started to make Christmas cards already! My class last week focused on the Snow Much Fun stamp set from the 2011-2012 catalogue.

This is my favourite snowman from the set. It's hard to tell, but the end of his hat is an in-colour polka dot brad. So Cute!

It's hard to tell but the snow on this one is the Mica Flakes from the new Occasions mini. My peeps didn't use this on their cards as I made this on Sunday when I realized I gave away my original card!

My Crafty Room!

Have I ever showed you my craft space? No? Then, good, because it has moved three times in the last year! I used to have one of the large bedrooms upstairs, but then my son moved home from college and took over, so I moved into a smaller bedroom. Now we are getting a renter (one of my son's friends) while he is going to the U of G so he is taking over the basement. Thus, my middle son had to move back upstairs to the smaller bedroom. I have now moved most of my stuff to the main floor front room. That is where I hold my classes anyway, but now all my treasures are there with us, making for a cramped space if more than 8 people come to stamp!

Here are pictures of my space:

This is an overall picture. A shelf that holds a bit of everything, a table, drawers, etc

These white drawers hold my scrap pieces of cardstock and designer papers. It also holds chipboard, rub ons and retired cardstock and retired designer paper. The black drawers hold my adhesive, tools such as scrubs, stampin mist, cutters, paper piercer and doo dads that need a home. My paper cutter is to the left of the white drawers. It just sits there until I need it, then I pull it off that table and put it on a bigger table.

This is my stamp pad holder and 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock holder that my father-in-law made for me one year. On top I have two ribbon holders and my ladybug boots! lol

This is my 12x12 designer paper holder. I used to have a smaller one (thanks Priscilla) but it was too small. So my daughter is using that one and I bought this one from a friend who had a scrapping retreat place but was downsizing. I scored a good deal...thanks Claudia!

This is my desk. I decided to make one rather than try to fit another piece of furniture in here. I bought the piece of wood from a big box store and set it on top of two drawer cabinets that were the same height. The drawers on the left hold my big shot stuff, bags, miscellaneous stamps, fabric and other contraband stuff. The drawers on the right hold my order forms, labels, receipts, table cloths, etc. The spaceship looking thing is my garbage can!

This shelf holds a bit of everything. The top shelf and the third one down holds my stamp sets. Yes, that is all I have...that are current anyway! The second shelf holds my retired keeper sets, embellishments and embossing powder. In the white drawer thingy are my punches. I had them on the towel racks in the BIG bedroom, but now they are confined to a small little drawer. It's full so I will need another one...or a bigger drawer thing! You can see my reinkers to the left of the punches and my envelopes are in the box below that. On the bottom shelf is my paper recycle box. And beside the shelf is another shelf patiently waiting to be cut and put up for use.

This is my chair. I put it together myself! It is a bit high for the table but that is ok. My Stampin Up apron (that I earned for free) is on the back of it.

This is my whiteboard that displays what classes I have. As you can see, Tuesdays are class night here in my pad. It's a day that works best for almost everyone. I also have samples of the different colours we offer. I just need to add the in colours.

And then the tables where the creating stampers sit! This was a picture from when I had my new catty party. There is a mini fridge in the back right corner but it is no longer there. It will be going in the basement for the renter.

July Step it Up a Notch class

In July we did these two cards for my Step It Up class. The one above was a lot of punching! Each strip was cut 1" x 4.25". Then we punched each one with the scallop edge punch. The flower is punched from tin with the five petal punch. The brad was a silver brad, but I wanted a Melon Mambo one so I put the top of the brad in Versamark, then dipped in Melon Mambo embossing powder and heat set it.

This card uses the round sweet treat cups and the large oval punch. We punched 20 oval punches from More Mustard cardstock and then sponged each one with chocolate chip ink. We filled the sweet treat cups with chocolate covered raisins. I wanted to put m and ms in but I couldn't find just brown ones. The butterfly is punched using the Big Shot and then embossed with one of the embossing folders.

Technique Tuesday

The first Tuesday of every month I teach a class in my home called Technique Tuesday. We learn a new technique and make two cards while doing it. So I decided to post what we learn on my blog too!

This technique we learned back in May. Did you know Stampin Up sells Baker's Twine? It comes in three designs, white, white and early espresso, white and cherry cobbler. Did you know you can dye the twine? Yeppers! That way you can have any colour you want!

First, take a piece of the White Baker's Twine the size that you need.

Then take a bit of water (about an eighth of a cup) and add as much drops of re-inker as how dark you want your twine.

Then put your piece of twine in the water/reinker mixture. Depending on how dark you want your twine will depend on how long you leave it in

Take the twine out and place on paper towel to drain off the excess water. Hang the twine up to dry

Then use on your card!

It doesn't help when my son is constantly using my laptop now that summer holidays have arrived either! He's really good when I ask him if I can use MY laptop for half an hour, but then he is constantly looking over my should to see if I am finished! Silly goose!

So, this long weekend (in Canada anyway) I am going to take back my laptop and share everything I have been doing in the last two weeks. Not all at once, though. I don't want to overload any of you!

My Baby is 15? Since when?

Today my baby and only daughter is 15. Holy cow I'm old! lol

We woke her up early (before leaving for work) to give her THE birthday gift of a lifetime, well her lifetime anyway! Tickets to see Taylor Swift! She was so excited she didn't mind being woken up early. I was excited to finally tell her we were going. I bought the tickets way before Christmas but wanted to wait until her birthday to give them to her.

I made her this card and stuck the 'tickets' inside with a note from her dad and I.

She loves to sing so this card focused on musical things. The big background stamp is not SU, but the guitar, heart and greeting are.

Finishing those unfinished projects!

Today was a holiday in Canada and it was yucky weather outside, so I sat down and finished all those 'unfinished' projects I had laying around.

First up is this monogrammed DVD case with cards. We did this at my March stamp camp and I never did finish the one I was demonstrating with. These were inspired by Rhonda Wade.

This is the inside with the cards. I made this for my big sister. I hope she likes it.

Then these bookmarks and holders. We made this last year and I never finished my demo one. Not much to look at on the outside...

But the inside is fab!

Here is a close up of the bookmark. Each holder has four bookmarks. Inspiration for this project was from Andrea Walford. I think I will give these to my two youngest nieces.

I also finished up some cards which I have already shown.

Birthday Invitations

My daughter's 15th birthday is coming up so she asked if I would help her make her invitations. She came up with the idea and I helped her execute it.

Here is the top view. The designer paper is not Stampin Up but it goes well with the Wild Wasabi cardstock!

Each girl's name was put on the word window punch out

The inside! Isn't it cute? She found the owl on a card I swapped with Dina and wanted it on her invites. So we re-created it and put it in the bottom of the explosion box. She is so creative!

Aren't these the cutest things? I found these while blog surfing on this blog. Cute, cute, cute! I made about 60 of these for my upcoming craft fair. Just the bunnies though. The chicks look like a lot of work for what I could charge!

They are filled with Easter m&m's. I bought them in the States because they just cost too darn much up here!

It's a Purse thang!

I purchased a tutorial from Becky at Inking Idaho for these cute little purses! I made them and then just had to hold a class showing the ladies how to make them! They are so adorable and will hold a small gift or a gift card! So I made a bunch to sell at the upcoming craft sale I am in.

This one took the shortest time so I made probably 15.

This one took the longest so I only made two of them!

And this one I made about 6.

Extravaganza Projects

This is a wooden frame that we decorated with designer paper

This is a clear dvd case (which we sell) decorated with designer paper and we created four cards to go inside. This was totally inspired by Rhonda Wade.

Tri-shutter card. When I made this card for the first time a couple years ago I found it hard to get the folds to go the right way. I tackled it again and was able to do it no problem. And so did the girls!

Stamping Extravaganza Today!

Today was my bi-annual Stamping Extravaganza! It was great! I am so pooped but it was so fun!

Look what some of the ladies brought me for my fifth anniversary with Stampin Up!

And my friend and co-worker Amanda made these awesome cupcakes! I told her she should go into business selling these...they are so pretty and soooooooo yummy! Butter cream icing...drool!

Love Impressions Designer Purse

I purchased the 12 days of Christmas instructions from Becky Roberts. It is full of neat stuff to make...and not just for Christmas!

This purse and notecard set is one of the items in the instructions. I used the Love Impressions designer paper and the glitter paper from the Occasions mini. It turned out pretty cool!

I hope you are all having a love-filled day! My hubby had to go on a business trip this week so we celebrated yesterday (although we do stuff for each other all year...not just on one day!).

Hubby even made me a card! All on his own! Lookie:

He used so many punches and the Big Shot! I asked my daughter if she helped him and she said no. I asked him how he knew how to use everything and he said he just looked at what I had and then tried them out. He did admit that he had seen me use the Big Shot before and just remembered how I used it. Will wonders never cease!

Love Day Class

I held a class yesterday called 'Get ready for the Love Day'. The ladies made four items, one a card, to give to their loved one on Valentine's Day, or any day they wish!

This is a box in a bag...and yes there are gummie hearts and bears inside!

This is a cellophane candy holder, inspired by Andrea Walford. I love the Valentine candy corn...it matches the paper so perfectly!

This is a Ghiradelli chocolate box. We were only able to fit three inside, but I think it is because they are filled with yummy caramel!

This is the card we made. There is a piece of vellum paper over the top, which is what we stamped the sentiment on.

This is what I gave everyone that came. It is made with the petal cone die cut and it is filled with homemade chocolates (thanks to my daughter), candy corn and a kit kat.

Male Card Class

My customers always find it hard to create male cards. So do I! So I had a class that focused on male cards. The above two cards are the exact same design, just a different image...just in case my customers did not have any rocker males to give it too! As it turned out, everyone made one of each!

This card is a shirt-tie card. I used a large brad for the 'clip'

This card was inspired by Jackie Topa. She used the bird punch for the fire. Isn't that cool?

Last weekend my upline, Donna, held a stamp for fun day for all her demonstrators and some friends. The morning was a bit of business talking but after lunch we did a shoebox swap. Each demonstrator had to design a card and then put all the supplies to make the card in a shoebox or box of some type. We then went around to each 'station' and made the card. So I have 16 cards to show you! But not all at once...that would be card overload! lol

Here are the first five. I apologize as I don't remember (or even know) who created which card but I will do my best!

This card uses the cupcake punch and coordinating stamp set. Hard to master but cool!

This card uses a stamp set from the Sale-a-Bration catty. Love free stuff!

I had a class on Tuesday where people could make as many cards as they wanted to. I had five different designs and they could make one, two or ten of each design! Of course it had to storm that day and night (it was a Tuesday after all!) so I had the class on Tuesday for those who wanted to brave the storm, then Wednesday for those who didn't.

Sorry the picture is dark. I'm not a professional LOL. This uses the newsprint paper from the Occasions mini. Makes a great male card! It is also the card I am taking to my upline's stamp for fun day today.
